I am Pernell Goodyear and I am married to my college sweetheart, Margaret. Together we have three incredibly amazing kids: Samantha (13), Lucas (11), and Jacob (9)… and a miniature schnauzer named, “Bear.” As a family we love to throw parties, go camping and cottaging, take bike rides, watch movies, play board games, explore new cities, carpet wrestle (I always win), and laugh a whole bunch.
I am the teaching pastor at Hillside Church in London, Ontario – a church that is trying to make the Kingdom of God tangible in the city.
We lived in Hamilton from 2001 to 2011 where I started and led a holistic Christian community (and coffee house) known as The Freeway (now called "The Commons") in one of Canada’s most under-resourced neighbourhoods.
In 2005 I started (and still lead) Cultivate Network – for those interested in creating and developing new and evolving forms of mission-shaped church in Canada.
In addition to everything mentioned above, I also enjoy a good cup of fair trade coffee, cooking meat on the grill, taking walks in my neighbourhood, mountain biking through urban and trail environments, reading books by dead authors, listening to my iPod for hours at a time, making things look pretty (websites, rooms, photos, etc.) and investing in people.
I tend to live in the world of ideas, communication, leadership development, neighbourhood engagement, culture, and mission. I have been known to travel a bit as a speaker, trainer, consultant, and coach, particularly on the topics of church planting, culture, urban mission, and leadership… but, to be honest, I mostly like to be friends.
