Looking On The Bright Side

Things that I have really been loving in the last few weeks:

  • Riding my bike (Trek 6000) fast and far. I have been riding pretty much every single day… through the city, on trails, everywhere… alone, with friends, with my family.
  • Camping last weekend… really good times. Perfect weather… one of my favourite camping trips ever.
  • Watching my kids play extreme dodgeball. We signed all three of our young ‘uns up for a dodgeball league every Tuesday evening this summer. So fun to watch… and they absolutely love playing.
  • Going to American Idol Live Tour with my daughter, Samantha, last Monday. We don’t get to spend tons of one-on-one time together so when we do, I like to soak it in… and the show was actually pretty entertaining.
  • The weather. Yes, I know it’s disgustingly hot, but at least it’s not winter. Flip flops, shorts, fresh air… come on, it’s beautiful.
  • Training. I have gone and signed myself up for my first-ever running race: 10 km. I have been working hard so as not to embarrass myself in a couple weeks.
  • BBQs. Meat on the grill. Eating outside. Nuff said.
  • Early morning breakfasts with my buddy. My friend, Mark Jefferson, and I have been meeting weekly at 7 am for breakfast. It’s been really good to catch up and stay connected. Mark and his family moved 45 minutes away last year. I miss them being closer.
  • Meeting new and interesting people. I have been meeting a bunch of new people lately, especially as I have been interviewing for vocational positions, etc. But also because my tattoos are “exposed” and it seems like every day some stranger stops me to ask about them or compliment me on them, and often a conversation ensues.
  • My desktop picture. On my iMac I have a picture from our vacation at a cottage we rented last year. We have rented a cottage near Huntsville for a week later in July. I can’t wait.
  • My new Algonquin chairs. Margie and my kids bought me two beautiful chairs for Father’s Day in June and they are spectacular. I love sitting in them on our back deck and chillaxin’.
  • Roasted red pepper and feta spread. Honestly, that stuff is delish.
  • Holding my wife’s hand. We have held hands a lot more than usual. I like that.

Rescue Me

Jesus – the One who hears and understands:

Please rescue me from the need I have to be…

first
honoured
recognized
praised
thanked
right
approved
consulted
chosen
loved

Please rescue me from the fear I have of being…

humiliated
forgotten
wrong
ridiculed
vulnerable
suspected
sorry
despised
quiet
poor

Jesus, give me grace & humility. Rescue me from who I have been so that I can be more of who you want me to be.

Amen.
