Surge | 35 Under 35

Friday, September 28, 2007

In July, I had mentioned that I was one of the finalists in the 35 Under 35 National Recognition Project. Well, Christian Week Magazine has featured all 35 finalists in an issue of their magazine entitled "Surge" which I think is now available [or will be really soon].

Apparently, I made the cover:

You can read the article about me here [click on image to enlarge]:

Check out www.christianweek.org or click here for a PDF version of the issue, to read about the other 34 finalists.

Hey Pernell, can you help me out with that quote? The people that have a ticket, is it good that they have one?

If they aren't helping out people around them so they too can get a ticket, I would agree, that is not a good thing. But would you agree that having the ticket is a good thing, no not a good thing, its an unbelievable thing and that if we have one we would want others to receive one also?

So at the Freeway, do those who have tickets, desire for others to receive one, or do they just kind of want to hang out with people? You want people to receive tickets don't you?

Can you just help me out with that?

    Thanks

    George

George - I don't think I can help you out whatsoever. In fact, I don't think you want me to. I think you came here again looking for an argument, or to point fingers or whatever.

    No thanks.

If you want to know what people at The Freeway want or think about the gospel, you should show up sometime and ask them yourself.

Actually Pernell, I do want you to help me to understand.

Just tell us, how is your church different?

As one of the leaders, I will assume you have your ticket. You are in the airport, but because you see the world around you burning, on Main and King and Victoria, what do you do? How do you reach them with the Gospel, all those that are burning? How do you help them get a ticket?

See, its always interesting to me how you guys shut down when it comes to being asked about exactly what you do to help people to receive salvation. Too individual you say. You yourself, as an individual, profess to have salvation, but don't care to discuss how it is you share the Gospel with others so they too can receive salvation. I keep reading it over and over from those in the emerging church and it only leads me to believe that there really isn't a concern for seeing people get saved. Just makes no sense whatsover.

Your Vancouver buddy, just this week, tells me the Gospel is all about preaching to the poor, but when I ask Him how does it, he shuts down and tells me I'm not listening. Can't answer the question, just turns it around and tells me I'm not willing to learn from anyone anyways.

I was hoping you might be different.

If you're going to make such broad general statements, Pernell, you should be willing to back them up.

Hey, I'll take you up on the offer to check out the Freeway, what time is church? You backed out of actually meeting with me, so I'll come and listen to you preach.

    Pernell,

Congratulations, we are very proud of you.

    George,

My suggestion, if you don't like what is being written, don't keep coming back to read it. Why don't you just worry about what you are doing for the Kingdom.

I know I shouldn't get involved here - but since it's an old post....maybe george you should get specific on how Jesus told people how they should recieve salvation....was it giving away everything you had to the poor, was it obeying all of the commandments, was it being born again...he seems to have a plethora of ways to communicate it....
