35 Under 35

Tuesday, July 3, 2007

Apparently I was chosen as one of the finalists for the 35 under 35 national recognition project. Just being nominated (hundreds were) was a thrill and an honour, but to have been chosen as one of the top 35 nominated Christian leaders under the age of 35 in Canada... wow, I am blown away!

The award comes with some perks too, including an Arrow Leadership retreat this fall in Vancouver, an article featuring each of the finalists in Christian Week Magazine (which we get a year's subscription to), a luncheon for the finalists featuring Brian McLaren, etc.

Thank you so much to those of you who thought enough of me to nominate me. I am seriously speechless.

Don't let the gray hair in the beard fool you, that's not from age... I have three kids!

However, in March I will be 35... so I just squeaked in.

Man, my head is covered in grey.

Spent the weekend with Thomas AKA Headphonaught & Olly a couple of weeks back, and he nearly fell off his chair when I told him how old I was!

Pernell ... so thrilled to see you chosen as a finalist.

It was a humbling and inspiring thing for me to participate on the selection committee and be at the table as we poured over the 200+ nominations. We were floored by the calibre and utterly inspired by what God is doing through folks like you. It was a real spiritual exercise for me which has rejuvenated my own life and journey with our Father God.

Also - thank your nominators. I found your nomination the most intriguing as you were nominated by two bloggers from opposite ends of the country (Heidi Turner in NB and Mike Todd in BC) - I don't even think Heidi has met you (am I correct?). Anyway, both Heidi and Mike (especially Mike - we go back a long way!) are well-known to me and I highly value their perspectives.

    Arrow?!?

    Run, Forest, run!!

All the Arrow grads I've ever met (or worked with) are the epitome of top-down, pastor-as-CEO types.

Don't get assimilated by the Borg, dude!

    You are welcome!

No, we haven't met - but I've tracked your blog since you started because you are ministering in a place so very close to our hearts. My husband was raised in Hamilton and we lived for years in downtown - our first apartment was at Main & Emerald!! Yikes!

I am so thrilled that you have received the recognition you so well deserve!
